Connie Gerbasi - The Truth In  Science + Co-op

Think God's thoughts after Him.

Johannes Kepler

Dear Parents and Students,
Calendar It's hard to believe our year is drawing to a close. I know you guys want to get your plans for next year in order. Every year I meet amazing kids who have some amazing parents behind them . . . it has been a joy and a blessing to learn alongside them this year. Your students are being properly prepared to live out their faith in these difficult times . . . they give me hope and confidence as prophecy is being rolled out before our eyes. They are the church of tomorrow! It is exciting to see them grow up . . . there are doctors, architects, musicians, accountants, pastors, engineers, meteorologists, nurses, entrepreneurs, soldiers, acupuncturists, lawyers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, artists and the most exciting career . . . moms and dads . . . what a privilege to have known and loved them through their school years . . . parents you are doing a great job!

Some of you may have never gotten one of my big emails that I like to call a "meeting in a note" but I just like to let people know that all the science I teach is from a Creation perspective. We use challenging textbooks that would be considered honors courses in many private schools. But these textbooks are written by doctors and scientists that believe there is a God and that He is the Creator of the universe. My ultimate goal is to encourage students to grow in their faith and achieve an even greater appreciation for their Creator as they learn that all TRUE science points to His design. I'm currently reading a book about Heaven which includes excerpts from some of Charles Haddon Spurgeon's sermons. This passage jumped out to me and is why I feel an education in real science is so important to a believer:

"There are lovely spots on this fair globe which ought to make even a blasphemer devout. I have said, among the mountains, 'He who sees no God here is mad'. There are things that God has made which overwhelm with a sense of omnipotence: how can man see them and doubt the existence of the Deity? Whether you consider the anatomy of the body or the arrangement of the mighty heavens, you wonder that the scorner does not bow his head--at least in silence-- and open up to the infinite supremacy of God." ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon

We talk a lot about design regardless of which class we are doing. The beauty and detail strengthens your faith! Current events and new discoveries get woven into our class discussion which gives a little dose of apologetics as well.

Now for the nuts and bolts of doing science classes:

Textbook cover image Our schedule for 2020-2021 will look very much the same with younger classes on Mondays and the older students on Tuesdays beginning in August. One change will be that I will be offering Chemistry rather than Marine Biology. Be careful when you say the words " I will never" because a lot of times God would prefer we leave the Nevers and Evers to Him. I had said I would never teach chemistry again, but some darling students have convinced me to try to make it happen =) I am not planning on teaching Apologetics this year but I do have a few ideas for the subject. One idea is for a friend (college student) to teach the class. Another option is for you to utilize a special offer from Answers in Genesis. They are offering their Master Apologetics Course for $19. It will only be on sale until the Ark opens back up.
Click this link for complete details . .

Calendar Because these are classes for homeschooled students, moms you can contact me if you need to make any adjustments for your child. My classroom has an open door and parents are welcome to sit in the back. My gradebook (for Tuesday students) comes to class with me and you are welcome to check it at any time or take a picture for your records or sports eligibility etc. I am not a big fan of busy work and there are a lot more interesting ways to learn science but in the institutional realm of education . . . paperwork is the main thing so we do a little bit of both. It does reinforce the work we do in class. You will get detailed info over the summer as to what is expected of your students and how we do homework and grading.

earth in God's hand image All the science I teach is creation science from a biblical worldview. My ultimate goal is to encourage students to grow in their faith and achieve an even greater appreciation for their Creator as they learn that all TRUE science points to His design . . . Seeing science as the process of thinking God's thoughts after Him ~ Johannes Kepler. Your students challenge and amaze me with their ability to think biblically. . . .they are experts on all the hot topics like evolution, climate change and the sanctity of life. They bless me, challenge me and sharpen me weekly. Thanks for the great job you are all doing as parents . . . your children are already bearing fruit and they aren't even graduated yet!

Registration is just sending me an email EVEN IF YOU HAVE TOLD ME ALREADY WHAT CLASS YOU WANT. Then you will receive an email at a later date as to how we will do deposits etc. All the information and specifics about your class will come to you over the summer. All the classes are listed as well as a tentative schedule. There are attachments describing each of the classes that you can click on at the bottom. All the classes are listed below:

This year may be at a different location. I have taught at New Hope Church (3101 Sydney Dover Rd, Dover, Fl) for many years. The church has disbanded and the building is up for sale. If it were to sell quickly, and the buyer is willing to let us use their facility, we will hold classes there but . . . most likely we will be making a change to meet as the guests of my church, Bethany Baptist (3409 Cork Road Plant City, Fl), which is about 51/2 miles north of where we have always met.

I'm not sure on the amount of a facility fee but to give new folks a ballpark figure, it was $50 per student this year. We also ask that you bring donations of paper towels and toilet paper to help offset our costs to the church.

Please note that we do NOT use the newest editions of the Apologia textbooks. We are purposely using the OLDER editions. It is sort of a long story but the author Dr. Jay Wile actually recommends them . . . they are easy to find used and WAY cheaper. If you are interested in receiving emails about used textbooks or in me forwarding emails about selling your science books, let me know via this email address. If you are the seller, craft your email note with your contact info (imbed your email so I don't have to retype it or cell if you prefer), price, text name etc . . . I only want to forward your email not write one up =) You will probably receive a few emails concerning texts you don't need but it will save me LOADS of time if I can just forward the emails to each class roster.

***I have been asked a lot about offering an Apologetics class . . . If one of the classes does not meet a minimum enrollment we could sub in Apologetics but it looks like there is not room in the schedule. If you have an idea . . . let me know! In the past we have done Cold Case Christianity, Unlocking the Mysteries of Genesis, and Foundations (by Ken Ham AIG)

TUITION FOR ALL CLASSES FOR THE FULL YEAR IS $220 PLUS THE LAB FEE LISTED BESIDE THE CLASS NAME. THERE IS ALSO A $50 CHURCH FACILITY FEE PER STUDENT (FAMILY CAP OF $100) AND A $10 CLEANUP FEE PER FAMILY. AGAIN , I WILL EMAIL YOU IN MAY TO TURN IN A DEPOSIT TO CONTINUE TO HOLD YOUR SPOT =)

I have attached a few documents that give you an overview of each class to help you answer questions as to what each one covers. I am so grateful each year to be able to learn along with your students. They are a smart and busy bunch . . . we have athletes and writers, musicians and missionaries, comedians and animal lovers, bakers and Lego makers . . . and we all come together for a little bit of creation science once a week and marvel that we have been transformed once again by the Master. What an exciting time to be alive as world events affirm what we already know . . .The Bible is always TRUE! Calendar

So excited about this coming year ;)
