2024 Senior Update:

Commencement: Friday May 17th 2024 at 7:00 p.m.
Believers Fellowship Church
5240 N. Socrum Loop Rd
Lakeland, FL 33809-4254

The Senior Update has four parts, some or all of which apply to you:
1) Steps required for your diploma to be issued.
2) Bright Futures Scholarship, with its “no appeal, no forgiveness” policy if you miss the deadline. The detailed instructions on completing the required on-line application should be followed to assure that Families of Faith Christian Academy International can submit your transcript. The format is new, with several sections (38 questions). Whenever possible, it is recommended that seniors come to the office and complete the application with Mr. Lawson.
3) The graduation program, including all of the items and deadlines required in order to walk at the commencement program on May 17th at
Believers Fellowship, 5240 N. Socrum Loop Rd. Lakeland, FL 33809.

4) Plus, there is a calendar of important dates, like SAT and ACT tests, etc.

Diploma Requirements:
This is the information that students and parents need so that all end-of-year requirements are met. Things like: turning in grades, end-of-year testing, etc. so students can be awarded the diploma for which they have worked so hard.

Bright Futures Requirements:
For those who have been working to earn the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, there are some deadlines that must be met. Check out the details and remember to read the directions before you begin the application, not after it's submitted. Some items were added to Bright Futures last year, so be sure to check the details to assure that you are up-to-date and in compliance with the new guidelines.

Commencement Requirements:
This is all the information needed for students who plan to walk at the commencement ceremony on May 19th. Let's face it, you have worked hard to complete the requirements for a high school diploma, and you deserve a ceremony in your honor. Plus, your mom has worked hard as well, and she is entitled to a full-fledged "Look At How My Baby Has Grown Up!" event.

Calendar of Important Dates:
Some dates that seniors should keep in mind. If you have additional questions, please e-mail the school at: admin@fofcai.com

Graduation/Diploma Check List

Graduation/Diploma Requirements (This applies to all FOFCAI students, walking or not.)

No diploma can be issued to a student unless all of the following requirements are complete. All seniors (and at least one of their parents) should meet with Mr. Lawson to verify all items are complete or in the process of completion. FOFCAI awards Honor Cords to students who score a 20 or higher composite score on the ACT, or a 970 combined score from the Critical Reading and Math portions of the SAT, or passing all three sections of the PERT test. There are no exceptions to these guidelines for earning an Honor Cord.

1)_____ School health file must be complete. A copy of the student’s birth certificate, immuniza¬tion record and school physical is required to be a student in a Florida school.
2)_____ Cum folder should contain your Correct Academic Plan so we can issue correct credits for the work completed. (If you dropped or added a course, we need to know.)
3)_____ Grades/Attendance and an end-of-year test or evaluation are required before credits can be issued. (Dual Enrollment students need to get a printout of grades.)
4)_____ As much as we hate to talk about money, it is how we pay our staff. Families should plan on having their student’s account paid in full by May 12th 2023. (Or arrangement made with the office.)

Bright Futures Scholarship

1)_____Academic Requirements. There are three scholarships. If you have questions about what is required, meet with Jim Lawson ASAP. BF Deadlines/Requirements are non-forgiving.
2)_____Request Bright Futures evaluation, preferrably before graduation on May 19th 2023. If you don’t ask to be evaluated even though you meet the qualifications, you will lose the scholarship. There is a hard deadline of August 31st, but the application cannot be processed until the student applies, so do it now. If possible, please do this at the school office to ensure that it is done correctly. (A link to the on-line application is also on the school web site.)
3)_____Qualifying SAT,ACT or the CLT (Classic Learning Test) test must be taken by June 2024 to qualify.

Commencement Check List (Graduation Ceremony)

To Walk at Commencement on May 17th (All of the following due by March 16th.) Graduation is a great time, and, at Families of Faith, it is very personal. This means there are things we will need from every parent and student who is going to participate.

The cost of Commencement is $135, and includes the student’s Cap and Gown, Padded Diploma Cover, Printing of Programs and all other costs associated with the ceremony. This fee is not included during the registration process, as participation in the Graduation Program is optional. Cap and Gown includes one Tassel; extra Tassels are $5.00 each.

1)_____Measurements for Caps and Gowns. The $135 graduation fee is required at this time. Due to shipping times, etc., March 16th is the deadline to be added to the walking list. (Cap & Gown comes with one tassel; additional tassels must be ordered for an additional fee.)

2)____Senior Picture. The final slide show at graduation includes a “semi-formal picture”. (It does not have to be a tux, but also NOT a t-shirt and jeans.)

3)_____Childhood Memories Pictures. These pictures are used for the Childhood Memories slide show. Up to eight pictures of the student growing up from birth to the present are needed. Please profide a variety of ages! The pictures should be in jpeg format. If you scan them yourself, they should be at 300 x 300 or larger resolution (But 600 x 600 is better). If you do not have a scanner, you can go to Walmart, Walgreens, etc. to have the pictures scanned and copied on a CD or thumb drive. FOFCAI will crop and resize as needed for the show, but does not have time to scan them.

4)_____Parent’s Recording. The recordings will be played in the background as the students cross the stage to have their diplomas presented to them by their individual parents. Recordings MUST be no less than 20 seconds (60 seconds is about the right amout of time), but no recording can be more than 90 seconds. (NO EXCEPTIONS.) This time frame includes all par¬ents or family members who wish to be on the recording. (We can record parents at different times and put them together for the final tape.) For consistant quality, it is best to have all recordings done at the Lakeland office. For those who have access to quality recording equipment at church, or do not live in the Lakeland area, please contact Mr. Lawson for details if you wish to do the recording on your own.

Recordings will be conducted at the Families of Faith Christian Academy office: 4404 South Florida Ave., Suite 12ALakeland FL 33813

Recordings can be completed during the normal office hours of 10-4 Tuesday and most Wednesdays (or as late as 6:00 p.m. most Tuesdays) by appointment.
