Master Books - Where Faith Grows
Overview:
Master Books has been around for 40 years. (An imprint of New Leaf Publishing Group) They are sole publishers of Ken Ham’s works and most of the materials from Answers in Genesis. They take a hands-on , Charlotte Mason approach to learning, which is beneficial for teaching a variety of learning styles. They believe in a “living education” with a Biblical worldview as the forefront of their mission as curriculum publishers. They stand firm on the belief that the Bible is the inspired word of God without error, and that man was created in six actual days and that evolution is a false worldview.
Master Books desires to equip families with tools to be able to share and defend their faith.
“We fervently believe homeschooling is the perfect place to start a grass roots revival.”
Master Books provides materials for preschool through high school. They have curriculum in the subject areas of Mathematics, Language Arts, History, Science, Biblical Apologetics, Logic, Literature, Biblical Greek, World Religions, Biblical Archeology, and Culture. (Not all of these subjects are available in each grade level.) The curriculum is suitable for both the classroom and one-on-one instruction. They also publish "Supplemental" materials that are not complete course subjects like "The Answers Books for Kids" series.
A nice feature is that for nearly all of their materials they provide a print or PDF purchase option. The PDF option is extremely helpful when parents will be using the books for multiple students, because copies can be printed as needed.
One Major Deficiency! DO NOT use their Reading Curriculum!
Master Books provides wonderful resources for Christian, homeschooling parents. The only major drawback is they do not have a solid reading curriculum. There is a program they sell that markets itself as being a phonics program, but it fails to meet the requirements of a true phonics based reading program. It is basically a cute, rhyming coloring book that teaches a few sounds and several sight words. (Simply K) This program is too close to the system used in public schools that accounts for the 65% percent of students in America who remain below grade level in reading for life. The incomplete phonics and use of "Sight Words or Sounds" continues in the Language Lessions for A Living Education; therefore, the Master Books Language Arts curriculum should not be used.

Aside from the reading program (which must be avoided), Masterbooks is a solid option for homeschool parents who have hands-on learners, and want to put an emphasis on teaching a Biblical worldview and equipping their students to be able to defend their faith in a hostile culture.
